La Lontananza Nostalgica Utopica Futura
March 4, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm| Free
Luigi Nono’s La Lontananza Nostalgica Utopica Futura is an extraordinary voyage through the
history, present, and future of the violin. Exploring relationships between the human and the technologically mediated, between the audience, the performers, and the work’s creators (Nono and the violinist Gidon Kremer), and between sound and silence, this richly layered and deeply moving work presents a dramatic journey, as both violinist and electronic sound wander throughout the performance space.
Guest Performers, Speakers, Artists:
Miranda Cuckson (violin) and Christopher Burns’ (electronics) sensitive and detailed interpretation of the work combines extensive experience (Burns is the only American interpreter of the piece with a ten-year record of performances) with new discoveries in performance practice (Cuckson is the first violinist to realize Nono’s instructions regarding the combination of singing and playing in the second and third sections of the work).
